The Benefits of being Cisco Certified.

10 Advantages/Benefits of Getting CCNA Certification
CCNA is one of the most vouched and valued IT certification through out the world. As much as or even more than 1 million CCNA certificates have been awarded since it was first launched in 1998. So it is not by fluke that Cisco has achieved such humongous figures.
Cisco certifications have benefited both the employee as well as the employer. It is a known fact that many people have literally changed their lives and have got real benefits and acquired valuable skills in the process of becoming certified. There are innumerable instances where individuals having more than ten years or so in their networking career feel the need of getting CCNA certified
A young lad looking to enter the field of computer networking should take the certification process very seriously. Yeah, yeah I know that either you would be having a first-class or distinction of marks in your graduation, but now it is not sufficient to sustain and advance in the ever changing advancements in the IT arena.
It is better to be certified and do networking, rather until one day you end up not-working.
Here is the list of ten advantages of getting CCNA certified.
Benefits of CCNA Certification
1) Knowledge
In the process of getting your CCNA certification you are sure to increase your knowledge and understanding of the concepts. Even if you have years and years of experience in the field, you would definitely increase your knowledge and skills.
As they say, nothing can replace real world experience, but books are also equally important for keeping up-to-date with the new advancements in the industry. In the process of getting certified you would be bombarded with many advancements of the industry thus increasing your overall knowledge.
2) Alphabets behind your name
After getting certified, you would be able to write those four magical letters which certainly do matter in these days.
So from the day you get certified till the next three years you would be legally and ethically right to use CCNA in your resume as well as in your business card. Apart from this you will get a CCNA card, certificate and letter from Cisco validating your achievement.
3) Career Advancements
CCNA Certification increases your chances of promotion. You could expect to move up in the hierarchy of your organization.
4) Salary Increment
Your next salary increment could be just around the corner after getting your certification. One of my friend got as much as 100% increase in his salary after getting his certification. You would tell that 100% increase is just unreal, yes it is possible, if you have good track record and are willing to switch jobs.

5) Stepping stone for many other certifications
CCNA certificate is a prerequisite for many other Cisco certification. CCNA concentration like CCNA Voice, CCNA Security, CCNA Wireless and many other professional level certifications require a valid CCNA certificate. Also some of the colleges give as much as 6 credits if you hold a valid CCNA certificate and want to do higher level studies.
6) Respect
Getting a CCNA certificates commands a certain amount of respect from your colleagues and employer. Some of your colleagues would have also tried to get certified, but could not get certified. So, this achievement of yours deserves a back-patting.
7) Employer benefits
Many employers like to employ certified people because it demands a well standing in the ever-increasing and competitive IT field. That is the reason many employers bear the cost of certification. It's a kind of mutual give and take.
8) Kick-start your Networking career
Before getting CCNA certified, I used to think as to which option would be better i,e. Cisco or Microsoft. Now, I am certain that Cisco is the better option as the latter does not needs any extensive preparation. I could now get other desktop and Server level Microsoft certifications simultaneously.
9) On track
After getting certified you would be on the right track to go for many other professional level certifications. Getting the first certification is always hard but once you take the first step, the journey to the thousand miles at least gets started.
10) Personal Satisfaction
You always wanted to get certified, so after you receive your certification letter and other stuff, a sense of personal satisfaction, gratification, and relief is felt.

Those were some of the benefits that you could receive after getting CCNA certified.

Why aim for CCNA or any I.T certification?

If you're an I.T person I'm assuming that you are already aware of the certifications what I'm talking about. Nowadays, you can't just go in the battle field of I.T workplace without being loaded of experience and skills + this title called certified xxxxxxxx. Now some may react, because they may know people who are not certified but had their success and on the top of their I.T career. That is correct. I knew some people too. But probably that's before and it would be an advantage if you have the skills and experience and you're carrying any of these certification. Especially at this point in time where I.T people are also over populated. We can't deny that we need to equip ourselves with these battle gears before going into the war.

If you tried to apply to big institution or company right now, you can see that certifications are included on the requirements they have. You need to have this and that etc. If you check jobstreet and other jobs portal online, certification on certain field are also included on the list of requirements. See, it would really give you an advantage if you got these titles. You will be prioritize on top of other applicants.

I remember before when I am still not CCNA. It's hard to get hired for the job I want or If there was an offer, salary was too low to grab the post. But after taking my CCNA and applying jobs again, percentage of interviews got high. Job offer coming left and right. Salary offer became higher. There was a time when I' have multiple scheduled interviews on the same day. And to cut the long story short, I found a new job where I can use these skills and gain new experience plus my salary doubled from my previous job. Thanks to God!

If you just starting out, my advise is to focus on the skills and experience you'll get on the job or role not on the salary. Well that might be a bonus points. But first, you need to horn your skills and gain enough exposure and experience before you can land to a good high paying position. Then take certifications along the way. That will boost your career and qualifications. That could cost money and time investments upfront but the rewards after are awesome. It will  pay more. Not only for salary but you will also earn respect and appreciation. From yourself and from other I.T people.

That's all for now. Godbless our career!

CCNA Training Centers in the Philippines.

In acquiring certifications in the I.T industry, you can find a lot of resources over the internet. CCNA is one of those. CCNA related videos and documents are scattered online that can help you furnish your skills and knowledge. As we know we can always opt to do self-study and then take the exam. That could save us a lot of money.

But I tell you this, attending a class or a formal training is still the best. Being expose to a real lab and handling real devices are awesome. Aside from working with the real equipment physically, it will also give you a feeling of  appreciation for the technology. Imagine you'll be able to handle and touch those cisco switches and routers. Oooooh what a nice feeling. Haha. I remembered myself when I first took the training, I was shocked to see switches and routers as big as a small cabinet drawer. Lol! And most of all, the best thing about attending a class or a formal training is the interaction with other aspiring CCNA persons. You'll meet other people who are as passionate as you are in learning this technology. You'll be able to personally share views and comments on a particular topic. And of course, you'll make new friends.

If you're looking for CCNA Training Centers here in the Philippines, please see below list. I compile some information on some of the available training centers I know here in PH. I am not connected or affiliated on any of these centers, please use the information as reference only. It is your responsibility to conduct your own research and look for more information about them. Here we go.

1. MNET Training Solutions
This is  where I took my CCNA training before. It is one of the best and most practical ccna training center I know. Instructor (Ms. Len) is the best. Reviews and feedbacks are good. Price is very affordable. Isa pa marami ang nakakapasa sa mga trainees nila. They will also assisst you and provide information when you're taking the exam. Ms. Len helped me paid my exam since I don't have a credit card that time. I gave her cash of course. Lol.

FB page: https://www.facebook.com/mnetsolutions

*Note: As of this writing, MNET or Ms. Len decided to temporarily stop conducting training as what we saw on their FB fan page. Not really sure what the reasons why. But as she stated, they are preparing something better, so let's watch out.

2. Rivan IT Training Systems
One of also the best ccna and other cisco and I.T certification training on the country. They have a lot of followers (including me) on facebook. A lot of good reviews and feedbacks too. No idea about the training itself and instructors 'coz I've never attended with them. Hopefully in the coming near future maka attend tayo dito sa Rivan.

FB Page: https://www.facebook.com/rivansystems

3. Ironlink Computer Learning Center
This is also one of the famous ccna training center in the Philippines. Feedbacks are good and they have a lot of followers on Facebook. As what they claimed, they are not using any simulator during the training and all pure hands one and real lab equipments.
Website: http://www.ironlink.asia
FB Page:https://www.facebook.com/ironlinkcom

4. Meralco Foundation Institute or MFI
Website: http://www.mfi.org.ph/

5. Mapua Information Technology Center
Website: http://top.mitc.com.ph/

6. Computer Networking Career and Training Center Inc. or CNCTC
Website: http://www.cnctc.edu.ph/

7. TipidPC
Website: http://www.tipidpc.com/

There's still other training center out there. Probably also one of the best and affordable but the list above is my personal choice when I did my research before enrolling on the training before. This could be outdated too. So please do your research as well. Famous universities like Ateneo, La Salle, UP and etc are also offering courses for CCNA and other I.T Training. I'll update the list and provide additional information once I have.

So here you go. Hope this post has been informative and good luck to your CCNA journey.

What is CCNA or Cisco Certified Network Associate?

In a world of technology, one of the largest and leading I.T vendor today is Cisco. They are the largest manufacturer of networking devices that supports large businesses and institutions today. And as we know, they offer/require different levels of certifications for you to be able to gain knowledge and be qualified to support different levels of their technologies.
In addition to that, companies and businesses today are eager to require certifications on their I.T employees. Of course, we're not saying that certification alone can tell if a person is really qualified or knowledgeable for a certain role. It needs to be backed up by skills and experience. If you're an I.T person, siguro hindi na lingid sa iyong kaalaman ang bagay na ito. Pero para mga bago pa lamang sa career na ito, susubukan natin ipaliwanag kung anu nga ba ng CCNA or Cisco Certified Network Associate.

According to Cisco's website, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Routing and Switching is a certification program for entry-level network engineers that helps maximize your investment in foundational networking knowledge and increase the value of your employer's network. CCNA Routing and Switching is for Network Specialists, Network Administrators, and Network Support Engineers with 1-3 years of experience. The CCNA Routing and Switching validates the ability to install, configure, operate, and troubleshoot medium-size routed and switched networks.

Ibig sabihin ang CCNA ang nababagay na certification para sa mga bago pa lamang magsisimula sa networking career nila. This will provide basic knowledge and foundation on your cisco career. The CCNA routing and switching will furnish you with the right skills and experience before you drive into the battle of cisco networking.

How to be CCNA?

There are two ways on how you can acquire your ccna certification.

1. You need to pass the new ICND1 Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices Part 1 and ICND2 Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices Part 1 . Ibig sabihin kelangan mong maipasa ang dalawang sets ng exam na ito bago ka ma-certify bilang CCNA. The exam number for these are100-101 ICND1 and 200-101 ICND2 (Before September 2013 they were ICND1 v1.1 640-822,  ICND2 v1.1 640-816). Each exam costs $125 each. Passing Score is 849 out of 1000 pts. for 640-822 ICND1 and 85% for 640-816 ICND2. Hindi kailangan na sabay mong kunin ang mga exams na ito. Pwede na one after the other depende sa'yo as long as the first one is not expired.

2. If you are already familiar or confident about your knowledge, you can take up the composite exam - Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices: Accelerated (CCNAX). Exam number: 200-120 CCNA (Before September 2013 it was CCNA v1 640-802 composite). This will cost you $250. If you're going to ask me, I prefer to take this one. Kumbaga isang exam at aral na lang and pag naipasa mo you're certified. This is the exam I took last 2013 and luckily naipasa ko naman.

So there you go, these are the 2 ways on how you can acquire CCNA certification. Topics and tutorials will be posted on this blog in the future. But if you need it now, you can go directly to cisco's website here.

FYI  Cisco's certification expires every 3 years. You need to re-certify or take a higher level exams to automatically renew your certification.
